Why can't I edit animation curves imported from Maya?

I infer from this post that you need to duplicate the animation before editing it?

animations imported with model assets are read only.

You can only edit animations you created from within unity.

This is to allow you to update your asset later on. If you could edit the animation curve, your chances would be killed directly again on your next update of the model from maya / asset reimport

It would be nice, however, to be able to copy the asset to a read/write version that isn't expected to be updated by Maya. I need to do some very small tweaks once inside Unity and the asset is pretty much one way into Unity. Like I said above, it looks as if there's a way to do this, but I'm having troubles getting the copied animation to work right. More investigation is obviously in my future.

Thanks for the info Dreamora!

Like mentioned in the post you linked to, you CAN do that. It's just a matter of selecting the AnimationClip you want to copy, and then copy and paste it, or select Duplicate from the edit menu.

Whoa, I didn't know you could do that - I guess I just never tried. Cool!
