If the player has a OpenFeint or GameCenter account: 1) Could I ask the player to choose a team to join when first time they play the game and permanently place the player to the team(meaning each OpenFeint/GameCenter account is assign to a group permanently)? 2) As the players/accounts become better skilled, can I sub-group the players/accounts in their permanent team base on level passed so they only play against players/accounts of the opposing team at the same skill level? Thank you!

You can always use Achievements or something, use it as a Team Marker, and do a check to determine which team they belong to. Like, if this person has the Team 1 Achievement, he'll be put into Team 1, etc.
