Particle Alpha Clamp ?

Greetings,

is it possible if you have multiple overlapping additive particles, but the alpha is clamped at a certain amount?

I need this for some custom 2D lighting thing.

The shader I use is the Multiply(Double) particle shader. alt text

You can see 2 seperate lighting sources, and I like how the shader "plays" with the background texture. There are no normal maps involved here.

Here is the problem:

Here you can see when I put 2 lights together it created an inferno of additive light. And because of this my background is all but gone.

Is there a way to get this effect, but at a level where I can still see my background when there are multiple lights together ?
