Try MeshLab for file format conversion to 3ds, which imports to Unity. Or use one of the open source fbx converters.

Alternatively, if you are unemployed or a student, you can get access to all Autodesk 2011 products legit for free. (Caveat: you are not supposed to make commercial products with them) ... But you should be able to create fbx natively though!

That's something Google has to do, not Unity. I asked Google people about it, they said that they have to charge money for something, so that is the reason why exporters come with pro version only.
