Texturing my own terrain?

Hi,I have made a couple of little projects with unity which also make use of the terrain editor but now I wanted to try to import a huge terrain from maya. So, my terrain is finished and ready to be textured but here I stucked because I dont know how to do it the best way?

I want to use more textures and paint it like in the terrain editor, so that it is not only one big tileable texture, which wouldnt be a problem.

Is there a way to use layered textures which make use of more uv sets or any other way to bring big painted areas to unity without needing masses of seperate texures, for example with alpha maps or something? Thank you in advance!

Check the terrain shaders in the built-in shaders download from unity. Here are also some terrain shaders that you can use.

Thank you, but the built in shaders dont include such a possibility :-(

Why should it not? They use a splatmap and it works fine. If you want to add more than 4 texture layers, you should add a second splatmap and extend the built-in shaders in TerrainShadersSplats.
