Spotlight not lighting terrain?

I am using a flashlight in my game, and when the flashlight is pointed down (my flashlight is just a spotlight attached to a model) at the terrain it does not light it very well. It lights it a little tiny bit, but not enough to see in the dark. The flashlight will light walls that I’ve made from Cubes very well. Why isn’t the terrain lighting up, and how can I make it so that it does?

As most of the answers I’ve found here are dated, I thought I’d note that I was able to solve this just by changing the render mode of the spotlight to “important.” Hope that helps somebody.

Hey there,
If the range and intensity of your spot light are both not at 100%, then try turning them up a little bit! It may be that the light isn’t reaching where you want it to light up, or it may be that the intensity isn’t enough to show up on the textures that you are using on your terrain… (I doubt that, but still, it could be a possibility…)

Anyhow, I think you should take a look at this post, as the third post down has a good example of how to create a flash light. It requires shaders in the scene, and a couple of other things…

I take it you already have figured out how to toggle the flash light on and off???

I have the EXACT same problem…i tried using planes but it didn’t work too well…

My problem here was that the intensity was actually to low, alltough i set it to 100%. Try duplicating the spotlight you already have. That way, the intesity adds up.

I’m still having this issue and these answers are for the wrong problem, I believe this is what he’s talking about, my flashlight just disappears at certain angles and won’t show at all, even in the editor if I look east the terrain is light clearly but when I turn west all forms of lighting disappear, it’s entirely the angle at which I view terrain. Unfortunately I don’t have a solution for this and am still searching for one.

I am soooo totally frustrated with the different things that have to go on with Unity, and trying to set one texture to be exactly like the one sitting next to it, so that a spotlight can show up on it, that I AM GIVING UP trying to build anything, ANYMORE. The SOLUTION always has to be: Spend hours, and sometimes days, trying to find an answer, and sometimes never finding the solution, that it is a waste of time. Even when you learn something, well, something changed, and what I learned, DOES NOT WORK ANY MORE, not to mention that Unity comes up with a different version, and now what worked in the previous version, does not work in this new version, cause it was DEPRICATED…
I have been using Unity for about 10 years now, and it always the same thing.
It is like spend hours, researching how to do something, and finally you find the answer, only to find out that something changed, and now, all that time spent researching it, has gone to waste.
Kind of like, when Microsoft INVENTS a new version of Windows (because they are a FRIGGIN BUSINESS needing to make money on what they sell, and EVERYTHING CHANGES, to the point, that the WINDOWS UPDATE turns out to CRASH YOUR COMPUTER. In MY OPINION, I built a computer, and want it to be only that, not someone’s opinion that I need to have an upgrade, and that ends up CRASHING everything that was WORKING BEFORE!!! We, build a computer, or buy a computer, and expect it to be that way from DAY 1 - on. No one said to UPGRADE the computer to what, in someone’s opinion, needed to CHANGE, and SCREW-UP people’s lives, just because they have a Windows Computer. It is a good thing that CARS do not have this problem, or we would still be riding in WAGONS and horse drawn buggy’s.
I GIVE UP!!!
