Instant local changes when downloading a new project from asset server

I have recently become involved with a small group of game developers to help on their Unity project. Whenever I connect to their asset server and import their project, i instantly have between 100 and 500 local changes to (what seems to be) completely random files.

When I inspect them, Unity says they are locally created. I have not touched a single file.

I have tried deleting the entire project and re-importing it on various occasions. This is what it looked like the last time I tried:

Getting the same thing: Get latest from server. See I have local changes on files I didn't touch. Discard local changes. See I have no local changes listed. Click refresh. See 20+ Local changes. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

The only consistent fix I've found for this is to commit everything, delete the entire local asset folder off my machine, get latest from server. Even then the problem comes back within a week. Our project is getting rather large and having to re-download the entire thing every couple days is getting very cumbersome. There has to be some way around this.
