Strange Physics Interaction, Joints and Rigidbodies

I am getting a weird interaction that is driving me nuts, I hope I just set something up dumb, I have never worked intimately with the physics in Unity.

I have a cube collider(balance) with a configurable joint at the center so that it rocks like a balance. When I drop another cube(weight) onto that balance, the joint works as expected, but when the balance tips enough for the weight to start falling off, it instead rides up the balance, counteracting gravity.

Demo

Here is an image of my joint set up. Everything not displayed is default. The cube is just the default primitive with a rigidbody and gravity enabled.

Any help that I could get would be great.
