Unity Crashes when I open a new 3D project (Fresh Install)

Good afternoon,

I just downloaded unity Editor for the first time, and I was hoping to jump in with some tutorials, but I ran up against a snag pretty much right away, in that the editor crashes a few moments after I load or create a new 3D project. 2D seems to be fine.

I decided it was about time I did a fresh install of Windows anyway, since I’d been having a lot of small issues since I upgraded to 10 from 7, and most of the forum posts I saw about issues similar to this were caused by interference from other programs running. So after resetting my computer, doing a whole fresh install and everything, the first thing I did, right away, was to install Unity. Unfortunately, the issue persists.

I’ve tried uninstalling, installing the 32 Bit version, uninstalling that, deleting the registry from my program files, and reinstalling. Nothing I can think of seems to resolve this issue.

At one point, when I caught it, I saw an error message in the bottom left, “failed expression[…I didn’t catch it all]” right before the screen closed, if that helps at all. I can also dig out the dump files and error logs if that would help.

Thanks in advance.

After taking a while to think, I went and downloaded an older version, 5.5, and installed that. The issue appears to be resolved for now, but I still have absolutely no idea what it was in the first place. Do they push unstable builds from the download page? Usually that’s the sort of thing you have to look for.

I guess I cleaned up my computer for nothing!
