When exporting an .fbx file with bones animation the mesh turns 90deg around x-axis and becomes distorted. I used the motion panel in 3ds-max to collapse the trajectory as instructed by unity and nothing happens. I've also tried different conversion methods for coordinate "system up axis", etc. I am using 3ds max 9 with fbx200611 exporter. any help is appreciated.

First thing I would do is to upgrade FBX plugin to FBX 2011.3.1 - that fixes most of strange distortion bugs.
