Probably your best bet is to load up the Island project and pull apart the water that is in there. After pulling it apart, if there is anything you don't understand, ask some questions on specific parts you're unsure of.

yeah thats what I was getting at on the Island Project there is a layer where the water makes the shoreline and it also has an underwater like fog effect, I was just asking how you would go about making them :D

i need this answered to, kind of. I am (for now) just using the preset water on my map, but the problem is i need a tutorial on how to making swimming controls (like the fps walker but for swimming). but to help a little bit (on the swimming part) i have a cube under the water that has no mesh render, attached to that cube is an OnTriggerEnter() and OnTriggerExit(). the On trigger enter turns off the fps walker script and (when i get it) will turn on the swim script. (this is a comment because it doesnt answer the question you had, but may help a little bit)

I can more than bet, that there are A LOT OF scripting involved. I want to know how to do a nice shore line or a simple, slow river.

Hi, you already probably found this out, but if you search in your standard assets, and I believe it's in your particles folder. There is a particle emitter called Water Splash (or something similar) it's very useful. I'm using it in my project and it looks beautiful.
