If I can export to collada is that all I need?

Or do I have have .fbx? Thank you.

hello, could you explain more about your question?what I understood was that you need to know if unity accept's collada natively or your need to convert to fbx? you can read more at this link: http://unity3d.com/support/documentation/Manual/HOWTO-importObject.html

The only format which Unity can use that supports animation is .fbx.

I think Blender will export .fbx files and Blender is free.
