Unity 5.3.3. low fps in editor, doesn't use all available proccesing power

Hello,

I got a new laptop with: an Intel i7 6700HQ processor, Ge-force 960M and 8 gb ddr4 ram.
It should be able to handle Unity easely. But I’m only getting 9 fps. I set the priority to high in the task manager, and I tried to run an empty scene. But still 9 fps. I check task manager and not even half of the systems available processing power and ram is being used. I tried reinstalling and restarting but so far nothing has helped.

I also took a look around the internet and set V-sync and Profiler off, but that doesn’t help either.

EDIT: Also tried using high preformance mode, didn’t work either. The problem is that Unity isn’t using all the processing power of the pc.

What the hell is going on?

Same problem, asked 2 times in 2 weeks. no replies yet. Upvote the quiestion! many are having the same problem it seems

I’ve found the only fix (and it’s unfortunately temporary) is to delete your library in your project folder and let unity rebuild. I have this same problem on completely empty new projects.

This is what worked for me…

  1. Close Unity.
  2. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel
  3. Manage 3D settings (Left hand side navigation)
  4. Program settings (tab)
  5. Select a program to customise → Choose Unity
  6. “Select the preferred processor for this program:” → High performance NVIDIA processor.
  7. Apply
  8. Open Unity.

Boom. Incredible FPS.
